Sustainability at School 2009-2010

01.09.09 - 01.09.10

REcentre propeled a variety of projects in collaboration with teachers and design students from St. Luc Liège - ABK Maastricht - Gut Rosenberg Aachen - Provinciale Hogeschool Limburg Dpt. Arts & Architecture - KHLim Media & Design Academie.
For the 2009-2010 edition of Sustainability at School, the participating design schools had collaborated on 3 different themes:

  • 80 km local materials and techniques: the students conducted a research into sustainability concepts and applications, and retrieved materials and techniques within an 80 kilometers radius.
  • Multifunctionality: the students had to rethink products for daily use and reshape them into modular, flexible, and valuable products. Multifunctionality is the search for products and processes that evolve with the end user and his needs.
  • Water: the students had to come up with propositions to sensitize people about household water usage and how to reduce water consumption

The results of these school projects were exhibited during the Cumulus week at the Media & Design Academie on C-Mine in Genk and at Design Nature, the fifth Design Biennial in Liège.
